A Conversation with Dr. Pickering
What do you love most about your job?
The best part of my job in research compliance is the number of different university communities that I get to interact with. I work with students and their faculty advisors on protocol submissions for IRB, IACUC and IBC, but I also work with other members of staff in lots of different areas including proposal administration, emergency management and safety, the livestock farm and the equine center. This has given me a deep appreciation for all the work that people do behind the scenes to keep the university running smoothly and helping our students.
What do you like to do when you’re not working?
When I'm not working, I'm usually spending time with my dogs and cats and my horse Dani, who was a riding horse here at A&M-Commerce. My husband and I like hiking, traveling and visiting with our grandchildren.
A Conversation with Dr. Pickering
What would you tell a student who is thinking about attending A&M-Commerce?
The best part about attending A&M-Commerce is that you are not a number. You are an individual who becomes part of the community. The instructors really care about your academic and personal development while earning your degree. Students can attend classes face-to-face on the main campus in Commerce, or attend online using Zoom, or attend asynchronously.
How has A&M-Commerce influenced your life and/or career?
Working at A&M-Commerce has allowed me to work with my husband, Dr. Attardo, to develop a dual modality instructional model which allows a great deal of flexibility.
